Briony Goffin is a writer, tutor, and mentor. She teaches creative writing at Cardiff University and is a specialist in facilitating creative writing experiences in community and healthcare settings. Briony has worked extensively in the NHS, as a project lead, working with patients, staff and relatives. She has also brought her writing expertise to organisations as diverse as National Museum Wales, HM Prison Service, The National Trust, Sky Arts and The Hay Festival. Briony has published widely on the subject of writing and the creative process. She has been awarded Inspirational Tutor of the Year by NIACE and has shared her work on Writing as Tribute with a global audience for TEDxCardiff.
In 2012, Briony launched a bi-monthly weekend writing workshop called The Sunday Writing Sessions, located in Cardiff, South Wales. In 2020, during the pandemic, these workshops switched to Zoom, extending the reach of the Sunday Writing Session experience. In 2023, she expanded her range of online and in person sessions to include weekly workshops, and rebranded as Cardiff Writers’ Studio.
Briony lives in Cardiff with her husband and two little boys. She loves walled gardens, roof gardens, mature orchards, flea markets, dancing in the kitchen, singing in the car, photographing family life, is a sucker for a decorative pattern or a printed textile, and collects silk headscarves from the 1920s to the 1970s. She’s inclined towards stories about nature and the domestic.
